I have some friends competing in the next Fight to Win Tournament on 2/21/2015, so I thought I would share some things that I make sure that I bring when I compete.
Try to arrive at least an hour before you are supposed to compete so that you can find your coach/professor. Scout the layout and get ready. I try to avoid being there for more than 2 hours before my match if possible, but I know that isn't always something in your control
- Your Gi (pants, top, belt)
- Extra protection that you use (knee pads, mouth piece)
- Extra shirt/hoodie for warming up in before the tournament
- Water bottle (Gatorade, etc)
- Skittles (Marshawn Lynch is on to something)
- Jump rope (a lot of tournaments don't have extra warm mats)
- Shoes or flip flops for walking around the tournament (you don't want to be in the boots that you came in)
- Headphones/mp3 player/phone with songs loaded that will have you at the right energy level
- Food. It could be a long day, you can have some fruit like apples or something like a bagel. I like the Clif kids fruit twists myself.
- ID if necessary for the tournament
- Towel and extra pair of underwear for when you are done competing
- Athletic tape if you need it, or if your teammates do
- Buddy (to video tape your matches, to run and grab something for you)
